Pre 64 Winchester Model 70 Super Grade Featherweight .270. Special Order w/ factory w.o. NIB!!
Description: ***SOLD*** A possible once in a lifetime opportunity! Amazing one of a kind, New in the box, factory special ordered rifle configured in the rarest of all Model 70 styles; The Pre 64 Winchester Model 70 Super Grade Featherweight and chambered in 270 Win. caliber. Only 248 rifles were ever produced in this style and in .270. This rifle S/N 334423 made in 1955 also has 5 special order features as outlined in the original Olin factory work order. The 5 "extra" features are 1. Full fancy American Walnut stock 2. "B" carving 3. Steel buttplate, trigger guard, and floorplate. 4. Engraved floorplate and trigger guard (per customer sketch). 5. Engine turned breech bolt and follower. Other interesting notations on the work order show that this rifle was built for Dr. Russell Smith, the same customer that owned the extremely elaborate Ulrich engraved and gold inlaid rifle set as highlighted in Dean Whitaker's reference book. These rifles are referred to by some M70 collectors as the "Holy Grail" or "RCS" guns. Finally, the work order also states that the barrel and wood were to be selected and "targeted in" by the famed Jack Lacy, who test fired the majority of other M70s throughout production and held 8 world records for rifle marksmanship. This incredible rifle remains in its new and unfired condition notwithstanding the factory test fire. The box is also nearly new with no notable damage, breaks, tears, etc. and includes the inner partitions and wax paper, along with a specially stamped hang tag and the owner's manual. Please add $150 for expedited and fully insured shipping of 2 boxes from Alaska to your receiving FFL dealer SOLD |
