Pre 64 Winchester Model 70 SUPER GRADE transition 22 Hornet Beautiful!
Description: Gorgeous Pre 64 Winchester 70 SUPER GRADE in rare .22 hornet caliber and in rarer still "transition" configuration. S/N 66*** with matching scribed bolt made in 1947. Overall condition is 97-98% throughout with exception of a patch of stabilized pin prick erosion on barrel in front of forend and a bit more wear to leading edge of floorplate. Insides are spotless. The 24" Barrel has a minty bore. All mechanical functions are smooth and correct as well. In addition to its scarcity of caliber, this is also a transition style rifle with the Pre War type cloverleaf tang and the unique "clamshell" or "rabbit's foot" safety lever, a combination of features limited almost exclusively to a short period of production between 1946-1948. All Super Grade components are genuine and present including Redfield front sight, SG stamped floorplate, SG swivels, etc. All of the unique 22 Hornet inner components are also 100% correct including an "H" marked floor plate. I have personally confirmed that the chamber remains intact and has never been reamed to a K hornet nor any other caliber. This is really a beautiful rifle with its somewhat unique stock blank tending toward the rich honey color that is seemingly every long time collector’s favorite...it is subtle but only observed on a relatively small percentage of Model 70s.
