Pre 64 Winchester Model 70 Transition 300 SAVAGE!! Ultra Rare!!
Description:
Well, here it is... The absolute rarest of the rare of all standard production Model 70 calibers, the extremely elusive 300 Savage (only 362 legitimate examples ever made)...and what a beauty it is! S/N 73*** with matching scribed bolt made in 1947. Near 98% condition throughout with all original finishes and just about "as good as it gets". The 24" Barrel has a minty bore. All mechanical functions are smooth and correct as well. In addition to its extreme rarity of caliber, this is also a transition style rifle with the Pre War type cloverleaf tang and the unique "clamshell" or "rabbit's foot" safety lever, a combination of features limited almost exclusively to a short period of production between 1946-1948. Winchester only cataloged the 300 Savage for 1 year (1947) but occasional orders were filled out to 1954. This rifle will most certainly fall within the "Holy Grail" criteria of any advanced Model 70 collection and would be nearly impossible to improve upon. Please note: Investing in a rare caliber 70 does not have to be a blind leap of faith. Having closely scrutinized hundreds upon hundreds of this model I can state with confidence that this rifle is 100% guaranteed to consist of a genuine 300 Savage barreled action: unfabricated, uncontrived, one of the original 362 made, and exactly as joined together by the Winchester factory back in 1947. Trust me when I tell you that the actual number of Model 70 aficionados out there who can accurately make that claim are drastically fewer than the number of real 300 Savages!
