Pre War Transition Pre 64 Winchester Model 70 35 Rem. Superb condition, Ultra Rare!
Description: *** SOLD, shipped*** Pristine example of the nearly impossible to find Winchester Model 70 in 35 Rem. caliber. Trust me that this is by far the most elusive of all cataloged calibers, despite production figures. These were cataloged from 1941-47 but continued to be produced and sold until 1954. Only 404 total were ever manufactured!! The S/N of this example is 55*** with matching scribed bolt assembled in 1947, but of 100% Pre War components. The barrel date is 1941 as observed on virtually all other examples I have encountered. These unique rifles required a slightly smaller breech bolt face recess than a standard rifle's .485 due to the 35's smaller case head diameter. This is not easy to precisely measure, due to being an imperfect circle with one end open, but I clearly get from .475-.480 depending on how the caliper contacts, and that appears to be correct. An empty cartridge snaps into place and is held firmly by the extractor as it should be. This unique arrangement also required a slightly longer lipped extractor than others with a special backstamped letter "R". This extractor is correctly stamped. The other very rare components unique to a 35 Rem are also present, including a #7 Magazine box, a #5 ejector, and the correctly positioned bolt collar stop. The gun seems to function flawlessly, and has an excellent bore. Overall condition is superb, showing 98%+ on both Blue and Varnish. The wood looks to have been professionally refreshed at some point but remains proud of the metal with clear checkering and has a beautiful and plausible appearance in hand. Expedited and fully insured shipping from Alaska to your FFL is an additional $100. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
