Serial number 47571 Mfg 1942 in Winchester Model 70 Standard Sporter configuration with 24" Bbl and chambered for the 30-06 Gov't Cartridge. Electro pencil marked on reciver "U.S. PROPERTY" Rifle falls into the serial number listing on p. 49 "DEATH FROM AFAR" by Lt, Col, Norman Chandler retired. USMC, Former XO of Weapons Training Battalion Quantico Va. It is estimated that approx 1000 rifles total were obtained and only just over 373 were in the Sporter Configuration. This example retains all of its factory finishes with the varnished walnut stock. Bolt is numbered to rifle. Mechanically excellent. These rifles were issued to various areas and little is known about the survival or even the total amounts procured. This is one of the finest examples ever offered and is a recent discover and never previously offered for sale.
