Winchester M-70 .222 Magnum (Winc Custom Rebarreled)
Description: Sale Pending !! This Wichester M-70 is a very nice rebarreled .222 Remington Magnum (The correct proof marks are opposite Winchester's) This caliber started out as a prospective experimental cartridge for the US Military. When it wasn't adopted by the US Army - Remington introduced it as a commercial cartridge. Like the .223 , the .222 Magnum was based on the .223 Rem case. The neck being 20% longer. The performance is similar. The magnum pressure is slightly lower. The major difference being the Muzzle volicties of up too 3720* (See Speer's reloading manual for more info). My info says that this cartridge can be adjusted to a very flexible level to achieve very favorable results I think that this would be a good candidate as the ultimate Varmint and small game firearm and give the user increased effecive range. It's also known as an excellent bench rest and target friearm. The gun bluing is vey good with an excellent buttstock and forearm combination. There are a few very light handling marks on this original period stock w/the correct horned Winchester Steel Buttplate -"No Buttpad". The action is still very firm and smooth and the cartridge chamber is still excellent. The drop plate operates as normal. The bore is bright and shiney w/a very distinct twist. I would rate this Win M-70 w/.222 Rem Mag as an "NRA" Very Good.It would to me be also a "Custom Collectible" as I believe it was quite possibly a special order through Winchester's service dept. I've been told that Winchester for their pre-64's was engaged in this custom type work. Ammunition & just shells are avaible for these .222 Rem Magum's from Henderson's to Cabela's for as low as $ 22 to $ 50 per box of 20. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Manufacturer: Winchester Model: M-70 Serial Number: 142503 Barrel Length: 24 inches Caliber Info: .222 Rem Magnum Bore: Mirror Condition: Very Good Metal Condition: Excellent Wood Condition: Good to Vg Bore Condition: Excellent Stock: Medium High Comb LOP: 13 3/4 |
