This is a vintage 1942 Winchester Model 70 rifle chambered in .30-06 with a 24" barrel. This model also has the back of the receiver cut for stripper clip loading. The left side of the barrel is marked "MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S. OF AMERICA / -WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL-", "WINCHESTER / -TRADE MARK-", "MODEL 70 – .30 GOV'T. '06". The left rear of the barrel has an oval "WP" proof, also found on the left of the receiver's chamber ring. The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed to a hooded, textured, ramped base. The rear sight is a "U"-notch adjustable elevator sight dovetailed to a boss. The receiver's chamber ring is tapped and filled for an optic mount (the bridge is not). The left-rear of the receiver is tapped and filled for a receiver sight. The stock is one-piece hand checkered walnut with a pistol grip, straight comb, sling swivels front and rear, and a checkered steel butt plate. .30-06 Springfield

Metal Condition: The blued barrel and frame shows very little handling wear in the finish. The butt plate finish is blued with slight patina and scattered spots of corrosion over most of the surface. The top of the bolt has scattered corrosion spots and stains.
Wood Condition: 75% remaining with scattered dings and scratched. Most are light and nothing major.
Bore Condition: Bright bore with strong rifling.
