Winchester Model 70 Pre-64 .300 H&H Magnum
Description:
Winchester Model 70 Pre-64 .300 H&H Magnum. 26" barrel, non-factory curly maple or quilted maple stock and an old Pachmayr recoil pad. The front receiver ring is drilled and tapped for Redfield/Leupold base but the rear receiver ring is not drilled and tapped. The rifle was originally set up with very old style Baush and Lomb mounts and rings, where they supplied elevation and windage adjustments. The rear base screwed into the left receiver holes, which were traditionally used for a side mounted rear sight. The purchaser of the rifle wanting to scope it will need to have the rear receiver ring drilled and tapped. Also, the left side of the receiver was drilled and tapped for a side swing scope mount. The rifle was stocked with a curly maple or quilted maple stock, unfortunately the inletting could have been done a whole lot better as there are gaps between metal to wood fit, and glass-bed material was used to make up the difference. The third photograph shows the floorplate and triggerguard assembly and a black grip cap with a star in the center, which is made of real abalone shell. The stocks condition, not considering the above mentioned inletting issues, is in very good condition. The barreled action was reblued at some time, and there is a little blue wear on the barrel on the top, right side in the area of Winchester address. The bolt, bolt handle and the extractor have been polished to the white. The floorplate and triggerguard assembly looks to be unmolested, but shows age wear. The bore is in very good condition. Rifle weighs 7 3/4 Lbs. Serial Number: 14802.
