Winchester Model 70 Pre 64 338 Win Mag MFG 1951 

Winchester Model 70 Pre-64 Made in 1951. Rebarreled by Winchester some time after 1958 into a .338 Win Mag. The barrel has the Winchester proof stamp in proximity to the corresponding receiver stamp. The clover leaf receiver such as this example is thought to have ended around serial number 180000. The origin of the stock is unknown though it is of a classic pattern and could be a Winchester stock. It is made of an excellent piece of grade III walnut with hand cut checkering. Two cross bolts and a red old English recoil pad finish out the stock. The rifle has been glass bedded from the recoil lug, with the barrel full length bedded. It has a standard Winchester floorplate, bottom metal and grip cap. The left side of the stock features a shadow line cheek piece that matches the lines of the stock. The stock has a repair with pins and Agraglass near the bolt handle notch. The 24 inch barrel has sharp and shiny rifling. At some point the barrel was fitted with a KDF brake. The factory bluing remains and the rifle has a number of hunting dings and scratches on both the metalwork and the stock. Topped with a Leupold 1.5-5x20 Vari-X III, this rifle would be right at home anywhere on the planet from Alaska to Africa.
