WINCHESTER MODEL 70 STANDARD RIFLE in .375 H&H Magnum
Description:
Here’s a very nice Winchester Model 70 Standard rifle in .375 H&H Magnum. The serial number is 170827 indicating it was manufactured in 1950. The barrel (the so-called C1 .375 barrel) is blue, contoured, and is 25 inches long. The two rear sight screw holes are plugged. I believe this rifle was originally equipped with a Lyman 6W mounted on a square base that fit this barrel. The front sight has been replaced with an ivory bead Lyman that is wider than the originally installed Winchester 103C front sight thus requiring the hood to be removed. A Lyman Receiver Sight No 48WJS is installed on this rifle. Its screw-in aperture is missing. This is a post 1947 receiver sight which incorporated a milling change to match the stock contour, thus allowing installation without any wood inletting. This gun has a low comb stock, the so-called contoured pistol grip, hand checkering, and sling swivels. It utilizes the Winchester solid red rubber recoil pad showing the patent date June 6, 1922. The receiver has a matte finish. The forward bridge of the receiver is factory drilled and tapped, but the rear bridge is not.
