Winchester Pre-’64 Model 70 .243 – SUPERGRADE, RARE, 1 0F 291, 99%, vintage firearms inc
Description:
General Specs: Winchester, Year 1956, .243 Win, 8lb 7oz, LOP 13 3/4"
Serial Number: 370725
Winchester's Model 70 was called the "Rifleman's Rifle" by many, including the shooting editor of Outdoor Life, Jim Carmichael. Known for its accuracy, rugged durability, and good looks, the Pre-64 Model 70 is in high demand, growing in value yearly. Most of the Model 70 rifles produced were Standard Grade rifles. The Super Grade was available to shooters who wanted a deluxe rifle and came with an ebony forend tip, the “Super Grade” marking on the magazine floor plate, hand-lapped action and bore, special stock configurations, inletted sling swivels, etc. Of over 1/2 million pre-64 Model 70 rifles produced, only 2.73 percent, or about 15,000 were Super Grades. OF ALL OF THE SUPER GRADES MADE, ONLY 291 WERE PRODUCED IN .243 WINCHESTER CALIBER, as noted in Roger Rule’s book on Model 70’s, “THE RIFLEMAN’S RIFLE”, on page 120. Model 70 aficionados...THIS IS A COLLLECTOR'S DREAM AND ONE OF THE RAREST SUPER GRADES EVER PRODUCED! First let me start out by declaring this gun is an original and legitimate pre-64 Winchester Model 70 Super Grade in .243 Win. It is NOT a made-up gun. I say this because of the rarity of this find and the frequency that Super Grades are misrepresented having a Super Grade stock only. WE HAVE PHOTOS OF THE FACTORY BARREL STAMPS SHOWING “SUPER” STAMPED ON THE BARREL AND BACKWARDS “S” ON THE RECOIL LUG, THE STOCK INLETTING, ETC. Not only is this an extremely rare M70, but it is flat out factory original in every way, including 99% factory blue on the barrel and action, 98% blue on bolt handle, 99% wood finish, near-perfect checkering… a collector quality, rare, desirable Model 70, sn370725 built in 1956. The rear sight is the correct Lyman 16B, the front sight the correct Redfield gold bead #225, the front sight ramp has the proper 14 lines of serration, the bolt is serial numbered to the gun, and the bolt and magazine follower are factory jeweled as a regular feature on Super Grades after 1955. The stock is the correct Monte Carlo stock with cheek piece used from 1951-1959. The photos will show the supreme condition of the metal and wood. The wood has only a few tiny handling marks, unaltered since leaving the factory with the original checkered steel buttplate and factory sling swivels intact. THIS RIFLE HAS IT ALL...RARITY, DESIRABILITY, AND CONDITION; THE PERFECT QUALITIES FOR THE STRONGEST INVESTMENT QUALITY FIREARM. Don't hesitate, as this is likely the only Model 70 you will ever see in this configuration and condition, certainly the finest Model 70 Super Grade in .243 Win. I have ever owned. Thanks for looking!
