WINCHESTER 71 DELUXE .348 WIN
Description:
Guns Listing ID: 626441
The Winchester Model 71 Deluxe in .348 WCF is widely considered the ultimate refinement of the lever-action big-game rifle. Introduced in 1935, it was designed to replace the aging Models 1886 and 1895, serving as a simplified, modernized powerhouse for North American hunting.
The Rifle: Model 71 Deluxe
While the \"Standard\" Model 71 was a rugged workhorse, the Deluxe (or \"High Grade\") version added features that made it a favorite among guides and serious sportsmen:
- Checkering: The Deluxe model features hand-checkered walnut on the pistol grip and forend.
- Sling Swivels: It came factory-equipped with quick-detachable sling swivels.
- Pistol Grip Cap: A hard rubber cap on the grip, often featuring the Winchester logo.
- Sights: Many Deluxe models were factory-fitted with a bolt-peep sight (the Winchester No. 98A), which is highly sought after by collectors today.
The Cartridge: .348 Winchester
The .348 WCF is unique because it was the only caliber ever chambered in the Model 71.
- Design: It is a massive, rimmed, bottlenecked cartridge based on a necked-down .50-110 case.
- Performance: It was designed to do it all—from deer to grizzly bears.
- 150-grain: ~2,800 fps (varmint/light game)
- 200-grain: ~2,500 fps (standard deer/elk load)
- 250-grain: ~2,350 fps (heavy timber/dangerous game)
- Legacy: While largely supplanted by the .338 Winchester Magnum and .35 Whelen, it remains one of the hardest-hitting lever-gun rounds ever made.
This rifle was manufactured in 1937.
