Classic Winchester Precision Competition Gun

Here we present a C&R Winchester Arms Company Model 75 Bolt Action Target Rifle manufactured in 1949 in New Haven, Connecticut, with a production run between 1938 and 1958. The Model 75 was introduced in 1938 as a lower cost alternative to the more expensive Model 52. What was needed, according to the Winchester brain trust, was a relatively low-cost alternative to the storied Model 52, one that was lighter, yet accurate enough to allow for competition. So, they developed the Model 75. Though it didn’t stick around as long as the Model 52, its twenty year production run showed the popularity of the “alternative” to the M52 at a much lower cost. Vintage Redfield aperture sights on both the front and rear established the Model 75’s paper-punching, tack driving credibility. And speaking of price, expect starting bids for replacement Lyman or Redfield vintage target sights, as this example has, be semi-stratospheric. Winchester’s Model 75 is a wonderfully crafted walnut and blued-steel gem from what could be described as an era of full-size, target grade, receiver-sighted bolt-action .22s.

The Winchester Model 52 was a bolt-action .22 caliber target rifle introduced by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1920. For many years it was the premier smallbore match rifle in the United States, if not the world. Known as the "King of the .22s," the Model 52 Sporter was ranked by Field & Stream as one of "the 50 best guns ever made" and described by Winchester historian Herbert Houze as "perfection in design”. Few vintage .22s have the legendary reputation for tack-driving accuracy as Winchester’s Model 52. It was discontinued in 1980, but whether in Sporter or Target trim, it’s still a byword among connoisseurs of bolt-action rimfires. The only drawback, of course, has been its premium price. The original 1920 sticker price for the Model 52 was $88.50. That sounds like a pretty good deal until you stop to consider what it translates to in today’s dollars, which is a couple hundred bucks north of a grand. That’s where the Model 75 came into the picture.

The overall condition is fine. Original finish. Excellent action and bright, sharply rifled bore. The stock is smooth and solid. A fantastic piece!
