NICE WINCHESTER MODEL 88, 243 WINCHESTER, MADE in 1957
SALE PENDING
Description:
Nice used Winchester Model 88 chambered in 243 Winchester, made in 1957. In 1957, a Winchester Model 88, 243 was a pretty hot deer rifle. It pushed a 100 grain bullet over 3000 fps and was even faster with the 80 grain. The .243 is a great varmint caliber, and is a coyote's worst nightmare. With proper bullets, many Elk have been harvested by this 308 necked down to .243.
The metal is very nice on this one, showing minimal wear. There is no evidence of ever having a scope mounted on it. The bore is excellent, bright with sharp riflings. The checkered walnut stock has a few scratches with a couple that stand out. These are shown in the photos. It has the original buttplate and does not appear to have any modifications made. It is a light, handy rifle, that fires a high power cartridge in a lever action format. Backup shots are fast and smooth and with practice, you can cycle it from the shoulder.
These pre-64 model 88s are getting hard to find. Many people still hunt with them, and there are many collectors who put them away in collections. If you like this one, don't hesitate.
