Winchester Model 88 1956 2d Year Production Excellent Un Fiddled With Condition .308

Model 88's and esp the very high quality pre 64 guns are both beautiful and functional with graceful lines, fast short throw lever and chambered for modern powerful cartridges. The very early guns are distinguised by what can best be described as a dovetail with the top of the receiver with a thumbnail type shape fitting into the upper part of the pistol grip; later guns had the receiver squared to the upper pg. 
The metal on this gun is in not far from new cond with no blemishes worthy of mention (the blueing on early 88's was 2d to none when they left the old factory in New Havern Ct. The handsom strait grained factory hand checkerd American Walnut stock retains most of the original finsh and is in excellent overall condition; checkerin shows almost no wear althouth some of the finsh has lightly rubbed off the left side of the butt stock.
There may have been a small chip repaire at one time on the right pg checkering panel; it is difficult to say (very small) which may be seen in the pics. There are a number of light compression marks on the stock which may be removed by steaming or filled wht light thin applications of Tru Oil or simial. The gun is completely original with no non factory holes. The factory sling swivels were replaced with qd type swivel studs and there is some finish loss around the front stud where the sling (no longer on the gun) has rubbed it.
We are calling the overall cond. 90% however the metal is much closer to 100 %
There is a period correct one piece Weaver scope base mounted on the rifle.
