***SOLD***Winchester Model 1890 90 Pump Action Repeater Rifle Chambered in .22 Short **Honest and True - All Original - 1940's MFG**
Description:
****SOLD**** Here we have an honest and true 1940's mfg Winchester Model 1890 chambered in .22 short caliber. In the late 1880s, the Winchester Repeating Arms Company asked John Browning to design a replacement for the Model 1873 rifle, since the rim fire version of the Model 1873 had never achieved any great popularity. On June 26, 1888, a patent for the new design was issued to John and Matthew Browning. Under this patent, Winchester created the second repeating slide action .22 rifle ever successfully developed and manufactured, being narrowly edged out by the Colt Lightning small frame carbine. The Model 1890 proved to be the most successful repeating rim fire rifle for general all around shooting ever made by Winchester. Approximately 849,000 Model 1890 rifles were produced between 1890 and 1932, after which the Model 1890 was replaced by the Winchester Model 62 rifle. A final cleanup of stock on hand was completed in 1941. This particular example retains much of it's finish on the 24 inch barrel and the receiver and tubular magazine have worn to a warm grey patina over the years. The oiled stock and forend remain in very good condition with only a few dinks picked up along the way. The stock has a very little play in the tang and has a few streaks on either side where the semi gloss finish has partially come off. The bore is clean and bright and there is still plenty of rifling remaining. This fine Winchester rifle would make a great addition to an existing collection or a strong start for a new collection. If this rifle could talk it would likely have some adventurous tales to tell.
