Mfg'd 1926, first year of manufacture.
RARE only 1171 were made in 22 short, The remainig 7426 were 22 LR. Only 8597 total manufactured from 1926-1931

Per George Madis, The Winchester Book, page 222 " There was a demand for 22 rifles in the medium price range. To meet this demand the modeld 56 and 57 were introduced in 1926. The Model 56 was the sporter rifle, the Model 57 a target rifle, of the model 52 pattern."
