Winchester Highwall 1885 Winder Musket, in 22 Short,
Winchester Highwall 1885 Winder Musket, in 22 Short, with a 28” round barrel with a bright excellent bore. The barrel, barrel band, and nose cap of this Second Model thinside Winder musket has retain about 90% original blue with some areas of wear toning to gray on the band, sides of the muzzle, and the high edges, also on some areas of the barrel and nosecap toning to a plum patina. There are also some scattered light handling marks and spots of light oxidation. The receiver is toning to an attractive and lightly-mottled blend of brown and gray patina. The buttplate and lever are a pewter gray case-hardened patina with some fine brown speckling and remnants of original case-hardened colors here and there. There is an added drilled and tapped hole through the “N” of Winchester on the upper tang, and the markings are otherwise crisp. It has smooth walnut buttstock and full length forend rate about very good + with a couple bands around the forend on either side of the finger grooves where the finish has lightened, a small area of wear above the left side of the rear sling swivel, and some other light handling marks. The original sights are intact, the rear tang screw is a later replacement. Front is hooded. The action of this handsome Winder musket, that brings the hammer to half-cock functions well mechanically.

This is an excellent rifle and fun to shoot especially with economical .22 Short.
