FLAMING BOMB Marked U.S. WINCHESTER M1885 .22 RF WINDER Training Musket C&R U.S. MILITARY TRAINER Chambered in .22 Rimfire
Description: FLAMING BOMB Marked U.S. WINCHESTER M1885 .22 RF WINDER Training Musket C&R U.S. MILITARY TRAINER Chambered in .22 Rimfire Here we present a C&R Winchester U.S. Model 1885 “Winder” Musket, chambered in .22 Rimfire, made circa 1918 in New Haven, Connecticut. Ironically, this was Winchester’s first single shot rifle, the company having been founded on its winning lever action repeater design. John Moses Browning, the famed gun designer who forever changed the firearms landscape, began his career with this rifle in the 19th Century before dominating the world scene in the 20th Century. This example is one variant known as the “Winder Musket”, which was heavily influenced by Colonel C. B. Winder for use as a training rifle for troops. The idea was that it be a full-sized rifle chambered in .22 Rimfire so that the trainee would get the weight and feel of a rifle of heavier caliber and the recoil and thrift of .22 Rimfire. This rifle was one of only about 11,000 to be purchased by the U.S. Ordnance Department from 1918-1919. It was replaced shortly by bolt action .22s, as the bolt action was the action of the day. The Winder musket was superseded by the 1922 Model bolt-action training rifle. The overall condition is fine. Original blue finish. Excellent action. The bore is bright with thinned rifling. The buttstock is good overall with a stable crack behind the lower tang and showcasing an average amount of handling. “U.S./flaming bomb” is marked behind the hammer. Own the original! This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 28 inches. Caliber: .22 Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1650 #247132 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
