Description:
This Vintage Pre-1964 Winchester Model 70 Standard “Alaskan” Rifle was made early 1960 and is chambered in .338 Winchester Magnum. Lyman All-American scope with very cool Weaver Pivot mounts that allow the shooter to swing the scope over the use the iron sights for close shots. This rifle is all original, including the Red rubber recoil pad. I believe the leather sling is also original 1960's. Very Cool set up! Shipping with insurance will most likely run in the $100 range, fully insured, I will have my FFL send this for me Winchester developed the 338 Win Mag in 1958, and it was tailor-made specifically for use in the Model 70. In mid-1959, Winchester announced the “Alaskan” style Model 70, chambered in the new .338 Win Mag cartridge and with a 25” barrel, and it first made it into Winchester catalogs in 1960. .338 Win Mag is considered one of the finest calibers for brown bear, and is one of the most popular medium-bore cartridges in North America. The .338 Win Mag “Alaskan” is also fairly scarce, with only 9,525 such rifles made, comprising only 1.64% of total pre-64 Model 70 production. This is a classic rifle in a great hunting cartridge that is ready to bag some game. This rifle is in excellent condition, I'm the second owner. The original lived in Alaska and shot a polar bear with it sometime in the mid 1960's. I'll include a photo of the mounted rug that is available to purchase at a local gunshot. The rug has all of the legal papers required for ownership having the taxidermist Jonas Brothers Anchorage, AK. I would bought the rug with the gun, but did not since my wife would kill me if I brought it home + its very expensive- around $5,000
