Description:
Based on an original Winchester 1886 lever action, s/n: 77234 (ca. 1892).
The receiver is now blued and has a Lyman "66A" peep sight attached.
A replacement 22-inch round barrel chambered for .45-70 Gov't has been fitted to the receiver, with a ramp front sight base that has been hand checkered, a dovetailed brass bead foresight blade, no rear sight and no provisions to attach a rear sight (e.g. no dovetail or tapped screw holes), and a half magazine.
The rifle is stocked w/ a walnut forend and straight hand butt stock w/ well cut point checkering w/ fleur de lis and scalloped borders, a 13 3/4" LOP over a 1" ventilated White Line Pachmayr recoil pad, a steel forend cap, and stud sling attachments on the forearm and toe line of the buttstock.
Metal is about 90% overall as refinished, some evidence of old pitting on the receiver and lever, and the blue finish is streaky and thin in places on the barrel, magazine, receiver, and lever.
The wood is about 75% to 80% overall w/ its lacquer finish "crazing" like old vintage Belgium made Browning A-5's are known to do on both the forend and butt stock, but shows up better in photos and is not as obvious in person. Checkering is well done and remains sharp. I see no cracks in the wood and no evidence of repairs.
Bore is excellent and rifle feeds and ejects w/ no issues.
