Winchester .30-40 Krag - MODEL 1895, SADDLE RING CARBINE, MILITARY STOCKED, vintage firearms inc
Description: General Specs: Winchester, Year 1907, .30-40 Krag, 8lb 7oz, LOP 12 9/16" Serial Number: 57228 The last of the lever actions to be designed by John Browning, the 1895 was the first Winchester to use a box magazine located beneath the action instead of the more common tube magazine making it safe to use the modern Spitzer type bullets. At the time of its introduction, the 1895 was considered the strongest of the lever actions and well capable of handling the heaviest military and hunting rounds of the day. Just over four hundred thousand 1895 of various calibers and styles were produced with manufacturing ending in 1940. This example was made in 1907 and chambered in 30-40 Krag. Everything about this carbine says military issue from its wood hand guard and saddle ring to its carbine stock, barrel band and mid barrel ladder sight for those infantry company volley shots! A good bore, crisp clean trigger and buttplate trap completes the gun's many attributes. The finish has worn to a genuine gray and blued finish and some deep blue is still evident where it had been protected from the elements on the inside faces of the lever mechanism. In contrast the saddle ring has worn an area of blue to polished metal in the way only time and motion can achieve. This gun has been through many hands and has marched through American history and now it is ready for the next stage of its adventure. You can be part of its story too; add it to your collection today and begin its next chapter. Enjoy.
