Winchester Model 64 Carbine in .30 W.C.F. Mfg'd Bet. 1943 - 1948
Description: This is a Winchester Model 64 Carbine (20-inch Barrel) in .30 W.C.F. (30-30 Winchester), Serial Number 1374505. Winchester production records that I have read cannot pinpoint the manufacture date beyond the range of 1943-1948. The mechanical action is excellent as is the bore and most of the stock. I am helping my 89-year old Uncle simplify his life by selling his gun collection for him so I have tried to fairly grade this rifle as thought I were buying it and the best I can come up with is between "Very Good" to "Excellent" based on the NRA Grading system and that translates somewhere from 80% on the low side of the Blue Book of Gun Values Rating System to roughly 92% (NRA). The high side of the percentage is because it is completely factory original with strong bluing; without scope mount holes and it has the 20" Carbine Barrel. That said, will leave it up to you to see if I am right by showing and telling you of it's flaws - you can make me an offer based on your level of agreement with my assessment. I edited the photos on high contrast so you can see the flaws more clearly which is what I look for when buying a gun versus the photo shop wizards who like to hide the flaws. The bluing is very good to excellent (for the age of the rifle) because it has minor wear on the edges and on the sides of the muzzle (NRA Rating Guidance - probably has seen some life in the saddle.) The 80% part comes from the forepiece and the left side of the action: 1. There is a (+/-)1/4-inch gouge in the middle of the bottom of the forepiece, and on the rightside of the forepiece it looks like the stock was scraped somehow (not scratched). 2. There are very minor (light) scratches on the stock but as you can see by the photos, the rest of the stock is very nice. 3. On the left side of the action there are minor scratches which can be touch-up blued in my humble opinion - I did not do that so you can see them clearly. 4. The top of the rear iron sight appears to have the bluing rubbed down, I suspect again because of its likely saddle time. 5. NOTE: This rifle does NOT have "WINCHESTER" stamped on the tang as some do. Winchester does not throw anything away so sometimes an older tang may end up in the parts bin for whatever reason and sometimes they end up on a newer gun and some feel that makes a gun like this more collectible my feeling is that might be true IF it were new in the box. Your call. Overall, the gun is in really nice shape in my opinion for a +/- 75 year old rifle. It is completely, factory original and it is the rare 20-inch Carbine barrel which the Blue Book of Gun Values says to "add" 150% for. If I average the condition at between 80 and 90% which the Blue Book's photo of a similar rifle appears to be, the value is $950. (There is only a $100 difference between 80% and 90% guns in the 2021 Book) so I split the difference and then I took 150% of $950 (because it is a carbine) and "added" it to the $950 for what the 2021 Blue Book of Gun Values tells me lands the value at $2,375. So, How about $2,250 and we pay the shipping and insurance, or make a reasonable offer. I tried my best so you be the judge. You can call me on my cell at 949-459-5725 if you have any questions.
