Winchester M70. SN 418922. I have been contacted by several so called Model 70 experts that say the serial to this is too early for a true Gopher Special. To that I say BS...I know this gun came from Gopher Shooter's Supply because I knew the man that purchased it from them. The gun was purchased in 1958, before the ad in their catalog was printed. This may have been one of the very first guns to come from Winchester. I don't know that All I know of that purchase is that the origin of the gun was Gopher's. Up for sale is a true collectors Model 70 Fwt. This beautiful rifle is chambered in the .243 Win. caliber. If you are a Model 70 collector, you have heard or read the story of the origin of these sightless rifles built for Gopher's Shooters Supply in Faribault Mn. This rifle was purchased directly from Gopher's by a close friend of mine. There were three calibers produced, .243 , .270 , and 30/06. The .243 was the best seller for Gopher's of the three calibers. This rifle has never been more than 50 miles away from Gopher's location since it was purchased.
