World War 2 US Marked WINCHESTER Model 12 TRENCH SHOTGUN w/FLAMING BOMB C&R Military then Police Shotgun Made Circa 1942
Description: World War 2 US Marked WINCHESTER Model 12 TRENCH SHOTGUN w/FLAMING BOMB C&R Military then Police Shotgun Made Circa 1942 Here we present a C&R World War II U.S. Winchester Model 12 Slide Action Trench Shotgun, manufactured in 1942 in New Haven, Connecticut. The Model 1912 (or as it is more commonly known - 'Model 12') was Winchester's first slide-action hammerless shotgun. It was designed by T. C. Johnson, utilizing a strong frame and a hidden hammer. The chamber was made longer for the 2-3/4 inch shells in 1927, then later for 3 inch shells. This shotgun was available in many barrel lengths, all possible chokes, numerous gauges and 11 different models. The Model 12 is an internal-hammer, pump-action shotgun with an external tube magazine. It was popularly named the “Perfect Repeater”. It largely set the standard for pump action shotguns over its 51-year production lifespan from August 1912 until first discontinued by Winchester in 1963 with over 1,900,000 guns sold. The right side of the receiver is marked “US” with the Flaming Bomb of the US Ordnance Department. The left side of the barrel is marked “CYLINDER”. The left stock has the inspector’s mark “WB” for U.S. Ordnance Inspector Colonel Waldemar Broberg. As a point of interest, Broberg was naturalized U.S. citizen originally from Sweden, who attended the U.S. Military Academy (West Point) graduating in 1919 (some sources say 1921) and served in the Army throughout the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s. He was an Ordnance inspector for part of his career. He was awarded the Legion of Merit for service in the Southwest Pacific Area of Operations in 1944-45. He is buried at the West Point Cemetery. This one also has a painted property marking on the right side of the butt stock “PPD” with a number “21”. We believe that this is a police department marking. We have observed other former US military shotguns with this same marking, so it is likely that a police department bought these surplussed arms to arm their officers. The overall condition is very good. Old blue refinish. There are two threaded holes in the left side of the receiver. The action is excellent. The bore is shiny bright and smooth. The stock is solid and shows wear in addition to having the property markings. The butt plate is checkered aluminum. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 20-1/2 inches. Caliber: 12 Gauge LOP: 14 inches. Choke: Cylinder Chamber: 2-3/4 inch. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $3600 #226326 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
