Custom Ruger Red Label 20 ga.
Description:
This custom Ruger Red Label 20 gauge began life as an early-production chrome moly receiver (not the later stainless) and was made for my wife. The barrels are 28" long and choked 0.012" in the lower barrel and 0.024” in the upper. The exquisite engraving was done by Joseph. My wife and I had met him at a gun show at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Since she had been hunting sage grouse and ducks, Joseph used those birds in the scenes on each side of the receiver. As you can see he used a mix of large and small scroll to give it variety. The receiver was French grayed after rust bluing and the barrels have been recently re-blued.
I made the stock from a block of Tessier French walnut purchased 30+ years ago. The checkering is 26 lines-per-inch. The Pachmayer recoil pad is covered in pigskin to keep it from sticking on the shooting jacket. The length of pull is 13 3/4". The drop is 1 3/8” at the comb nose and 2” at the heel. The gun has seen very little field use beyond a few days on the clays course.
