Description: c1850s 16 Gauge Percussion SxS Shotgun by CHRISTIAN STURM of SUHL Engraved Gorgeous & Light Engraved, Gold, Horn, 5 Lbs. Here we present an antique Christian Sturm Double Barrel Percussion Side by Side Hammer Shotgun circa the 1850s in Suhl, Germany. Christian Sturm was a German gunmaker active circa 1849 through the 1850s. This would have been a great gun for upland hunting. This shotgun features a finely engraved lock, trigger guard, barrel, and tang. The flat of the trigger guard bears a fox with a game bird in its mouth. The rear portion of the trigger guard is made of horn and acts as a pistol grip. The barrels are marked with the maker’s name and location with gold lettering and each of the breeches is gold banded. The stock is equipped with a cheek rest on the left side (for a right-handed shooter) along with sling swivels. It weighs in at only 5 lbs! The overall condition is near fine. The action is strong all around. The bores remain clean, smooth, reflective, and in good shape. The engravings are sharp. “CHR STRUM SUHL” is gold inlaid atop the barrel rib. Finish on the barrels has matured to a smooth and pleasing brown patina. The stock is in great shape, showing honest use. This is a very light and beautiful shotgun from 19th Century Germany!
