Description: ENGLISH Antique WILLIAM MOORE Double Barrel SxS 11 GAUGE PERCUSSION Shotgun Nicely Engraved 11 Gauge English Made Shotgun Here we present an antique William Moore English Double Barrel Side x Side Percussion Hammer Shotgun, manufactured circa the 1850s likely in Birmingham, England. England and Belgium were the epicenter for European gunmaking all the way through the turn of the century. This is an English fowling piece that is elegant in its simplicity and practicality. This double barrel hammer gun would have been used primarily for putting game on the table or defending one’s property, offering versatility for one’s own self-reliance. This double gun features engraving on the locks, hammers, trigger guard, and barrel tang. “WILLIAM MOORE” can be read on both locks. The underside of the barrel is marked with Birmingham black powder proofs, a depiction of a rook (as in chess) or a castle tower, “11” for gauge, “PATENT” and “No20”. The overall condition is very good. The action is strong all around. The bores are in good shape, smooth and dark. The stock is solid with sharp checkering. The barrels and farm have matured to a pleasing dark brown patina. The center rib underneath is a bit loose nearest the muzzle and could be shored up.
