Fine French 20-bore double flintlock sporting gun
Description: Fine French flintlock, double-barrel, 20-bore Sporting Gun with British proof marks, ca. 1800. Maker unknown. Weight: 6 ¾ Lbs. Stock Dimensions: 14 3/8”LOP x ¼” cast-off. Very nice 32” three-stage, re-browned, Damascus barrels with thick walls, excellent bores, with British Proofs, and devoid of any dents or dings,. Good quality locks have mottled grayish black patina externally with internals stained and with some original fire blue on the mainsprings. Side nail is a replacement. The mounts are all beautifully engraved showing a dark gray patina with little wear anywhere except at the heel and tang of the butt plate. One lock shows minor pitting on the feather spring and both pans and touch-holes show some very minor scattered specks of corrosion. The figured walnut stock shows some handling marks with one small chip missing just above the right lock mortise at the breech, and remarkably little wear. Original checkering at the wrist is sharp and crisp as if cut yesterday. Otherwise this fine gun is in very tight mechanically perfect condition throughout.
