Antique CLARK Back Action Hammer Shotgun c.1860s
Description:
Antique CLARK Back Action Hammer Shotgun c.1860s
Large Bore Single Barrel Percussion Shotgun
Here we present an antique Clark Back Action Percussion Shotgun, made circa the mid-19th Century in England.
A “Back Action” shotgun uses a sidelock action where the mainspring is mounted rearward towards the butt. The back action is often used in double rifles and occasionally in single barrel shotguns where the need for strength requires as little steel as possible be removed from the bar of the action.
This shotgun would have been used for hunting water fowl. It features a part-octagon, part-round barrel. The lock is marked “CLARK”. The breech is marked “LONDON”. The barrel tang, trigger guard, lock, and butt plate are engraved.
The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are clear and legible. The bore is dark. The stocks are in good shape. The action is strong.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 42-3/4 inches.
Caliber: .76
Overall condition as seen in photos.
