Engraved SHORT BARREL Mid-1800s FOWLING PIECE

Here we present an antique Jones of Bristol Percussion Single Barrel Shotgun, made sometime in the mid-19th Century in Bristol. Bristol is a city straddling the River Avon in the southwest of England, roughly 120 miles west of London. Used for sport, provision and protection, shotguns then, like now, have always proven themselves invaluable. This stout round barrel shotgun is in 12 gauge, primarily made to take larger sized game or shooting ducks on the pond.

Dating from about 1840 this fowling piece was very standard for the time and vast quantities of this type were exported all over the world.
The overall condition is good. Strong action. Very good bores, smooth, and remain in good shape. Solid stock with nice checking and less than average handling. “JONES” is marked on the lock. “JONES BRISTOL” is marked atop the barrel. This example is lightly engraved with traditional floral designs.
