c1850s Antique R.P. BRUFF Side by Side 14 Gauge PERCUSSION Shotgun ENGRAVED Scarce Mid-1800s Double Barrel w/CHECKERED STOCK
Description: c1850s Antique R.P. BRUFF Side by Side 14 Gauge PERCUSSION Shotgun ENGRAVED Scarce Mid-1800s Double Barrel w/CHECKERED STOCK Here we present an antique R.P. Bruff Double Barrel Percussion Side by Side Shotgun, made circa the 1850s to early 1860s in New York, New York. Richard P. Bruff was in a partnership called Bruff, Brother & Seaver beginning in 1856. The New-York Sketch Book and Merchants’ Guide, published in 1859, has a section devoted to the firm that reveals the brothers, Richard and Charles Bruff, and their associate George Arthur Seaver to make up “this young and enterprising firm”, which “although little more than three years in existence, holds a prominent position in the Southern Trade.” Their business was located in an “unsurpassed facility”—a warehouse—at No. 44 Warren Street with a staff of up to 30 men. Their product ranged from tools, cutlery and largely imported fine goods to firearms. The article states “To the Gun department Messrs. Bruff, Brother & Seaver devote especial attention. All their guns are made expressly for and adapted to the Southern trade, and bear the celebrated stamp of R.P. Bruff.” Congressional records from 1863 and 1864 show that Bruff was also the manager of the Joslyn Fire-Arms Company, having the authority to make contracts with the United States Chief of Ordnance to provide the Union with Joslyn carbines and revolvers during the American Civil War. It is not exactly clear whether Richard Bruff was simply a in these deals or if he was working solely for Joslyn at this time, but his business appears to last through the mid-1870s. The overall condition is fine. Nice brown finish to the barrels. The markings are clear. Birmingham proofs with 14 gauge markings underneath the barrels. The actions are marked R.P Bruff. Game scene engravings throughout the steel hardware. The stock has very nice grain and shows little wear. The bores are smooth and reflective. The nipples are in great shape. This is a very well-preserved double in percussion that would be great for upland birds. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrels are 27-1/2 inches. Gauge: 14 LOP: 14-1/4 inches. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1600 #226986 SOLD Antique: Yes |
