Description: Engraved W.W. GREENER Antique DOUBLE BARREL 12 Gauge S x S HAMMER Shotgun Nicely Engraved BRITISH 12 Gauge Shotgun Here we present an antique W. W. Greener Double Barrel Side by Side Hammer Shotgun in 12 Gauge, manufactured in 1882 in Birmingham, England. William W. Greener was a member of the second generation family which had been involved with gunmaking from 1829 to the present day. Greener served his apprenticeship with John Gardner in Newcastle prior to working for Joe Manton, who was probably the best gunmaker in England in the early 1800s. In 1829 he set up his own shop in Newcastle making percussion muzzle loading sporting and military shotguns and rifles, as well as harpoon guns for the Dundee Whalers. However, he found it difficult to obtain the best materials, so he moved to Birmingham in 1844 where Greener Gunmaking has remained ever since. This shotgun has been around the block. The left hammer functions, but is missing on the right side. The bores are bright, with slight pitting towards the breech. Solid stock with an expected amount of wear and very attractive grain. A great gun for the wall or perhaps to get back into full working order! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrels: 30 inches.
