A super clean 19th century quality double hammer shotgun made by Ethan Allen with original 13 1/2" long FINE STUB TWIST sramped on the top rib. The hammers match and work well, and the barrels arw choked 12ga at right tube MOD, and left tube IM, and the metal is very clean.Bores are clean and only age roughness not pitted. The matched locks have chisel engraved scrolls and E.ALLEN & CO. MAKERS. The American walnut tock is very stright and has deep hand checkered, with a LOP od 14 1/4", witha steel butt-plate.Overall exceptional condition for the age. This is a fine example of an Ethan Allen Double barrel percussion shotgun about 12 gauge. The barrel engraved on the rib:- FINE STUB TWIST. This of course refers to how the barrels were forged. These were usually made by heating old files, quenching the red-hot metal to make it brittle and then pounding it into very small pieces. This was added to a quantity of nail stubs from horse-shoe nails. The mixture was heated in a furnace to fuse the component parts. The metal was then hammered into rods and twisted and welded into tubes in the usual manner. Still considered a Damascus patter barrel. When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting. To buy a gun from me you must get a direct email for me, with details, and shipping cost.
