Baculini, Italy. Exceptionally rare and fine 23-bore O/U double flintlock sporting gun, ca. 1790
Description: Spiridione Baculini, Italy. A fine and rare 23-bore OU double-barreled flintlock sporting gun, ca. 1790. Weight: 7 Lbs. Good two-stage, ribless, 40” barrels with thick walls and no dents or dings have evenly frosted bores with no deep pitting. Gold “Pistoia” poincon at the breech of the upper barrel and a gold “Lion” poincon under the lower barrel hidden beneath the trigger guard tang. Two pierced and engraved barrel bands. Superb locks have virtually all of the original hardening color with beautifully polished internal parts showing no evidence of use except for the faces of the frizzens having been struck a few times. Also, please note that the locks on this extraordinary firearm, if you look closely at the pans, while fit up to the lockplate perfectly, they are still removable and, when worn out, they may be replaced with new pans by the maker without having to forge entire new lock plates. Nicely engraved mounts show no evidence of wear. Original touch hole prick hidden in the underside of the butt stock just behind the trigger guard tang. Pierced Butt plate tang with some missing wood within the piercings. Stunningly figured birds-eye stock beautifully relief-carved and in fine condition. Probably a period replacement ramrod. Overall, a completely elegant and quite rare firearm suitable for the finest collection. Antique: Yes Price: $19,500.00 Contact Seller |
