ENGLISH DAMASCUS TWIST Antique 12 Gauge FOWLER Percussion Shotgun British Style Mid-1800s FOWLING Piece!
Description: ENGLISH DAMASCUS TWIST Antique 12 Gauge FOWLER Percussion Shotgun
British Style Mid-1800s FOWLING Piece!
Here we present an antique Fowling Piece, made circa the mid-19th Century likely in England. Birmingham was the epicenter for English gunmaking all the way through the turn of the century. This is an English fowling piece that is elegant in its simplicity and practicality. This hammer gun would have been used primarily for putting game on the table or defending one’s homestead.
This example showcases a nice Damascus twist barrel, great for display! There is the remnant of the word “TWIST” and a partial British proof mark on the bottom of the barrel.
The overall condition is very good. The action is strong. The smooth bore is in nice shape. The stock is solid with a small split at the lock screw head on the left side of the gun, and there is a small repair ahead of the lock plate on the right. Both are stable. This is a very nice old percussion shotgun with a very long, 38 ¾ inch barrel that would have been great for the field in the mid-19th Century!
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
