Ornate OTTOMAN Miquelet Flintlock BELT PISTOL
Late 18th Century Miquelet Pistol
Here we present an antique Ornate Antique Ottoman Miquelet Belt Pistol, made circa the late 1700s. The miquelet is an early and sturdy form of flintlock popular throughout the Ottoman Empire from the seventeenth into the early twentieth century. Several elaborately decorated guns very similar to this example are still preserved in Istanbul, possibly made for the Ottoman Imperial guard. A “Miquelet” is a type of flintlock developed in Spain. It is a distinctive form of snaplock, originally as a flint-against-steel ignition form, once prevalent in Spain, Portugal, Ital, the Balkans, North Africa and the Ottoman Empire from the late 16th to the mid-19th centuries.
There are two distinct markings on the top of the barrel that are from the maker.
The overall condition is good. The iron parts are dark with age. The stock is in good shape. The bore is smooth and dark. The action is pretty stiff and not in useable condition. Nevertheless, a beautiful example of old world weaponry.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 7-7/8 inches.
Overall condition as seen in photos.
