ENGRAVED TOPLEVER English BACKACTION Fowling Piece!
Here we present an antique Sharwood & Fletcher Side by Side Double Barrel Hammer 12 Gauge Shotgun, made circa 1890 in London, England. London and Birmingham were the epicenters for English gunmaking all the way through and continuing after the turn of the century. This is an English fowling piece that is elegant in its simplicity and practicality. This double barrel hammer gun would have been used primarily for putting game or possibly defending one’s home.
This double gun has earlier Birmingham black powder proofs as well as later nitro proofs. Marked for 2 ½ inch shells. For chokes, the right barrel is marked as constricted .729” and the left .719”. The entire gun weighs only about 6.4 lbs.
