Description: Engraved SILVER & GOLD BANDED Antique A.W. SPIES Side/Side SHOTGUN LONDON RETAILER MARKED 12 Gauge Percussion Fowling Piece Here we present an antique Silver and Gold Banded Engraved A.W. Spies Double Barrel Side Hammer Percussion Shotgun made circa the 1850s in London, England and imported to the United States by Spies. Adam W. Spies was an importer and dealer in New York City, New York in the mid-19th century. He was born somewhere around 1783 and died around the middle of the Civil War in 1863. His hardware store and import business continued on until 1877. This shotgun would have been a nice hunting implement for the marsh, the field or the woods. It features 12 gauge barrels and an engraved back action percussion lock. The trigger guard, barrel tang, and butt plate are also engraved. The stock has distinctive striping in the grain. The lock is stamped “AW Spies” and the barrel is marked “A.W. SPIES LONDON”. The overall condition is very good. Original finish. The actions are excellent. The bores are in very good condition: smooth and bright. The stock has lovely grain and is solid. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrels are 31-1/4 inches.
