EXQUISITE German Side x Side HAMMER Shotgun by DITTMAR of GERA 12 Gauge 2.5 GORGEOUSLY ENGRAVED Germanic Double!
Description: EXQUISITE German Side x Side HAMMER Shotgun by DITTMAR of GERA 12 Gauge 2.5 GORGEOUSLY ENGRAVED Germanic Double! Here we present a G. Dittmar of Gera Side by Side Double Barrel Shotgun, made circa the turn of the century in the region of Thuringia, Germany. This shotgun features Damascus twist barrels and a premium grain walnut stock. The butt stock has a generous cheek rest, and the scroll-type trigger guard flows naturally into a pistol grip made of horn. Both the wrist and the forearm are hand-checkered. Amidst the lavish engraving on the frame tang is a round initial placard with a 7-pronged crown and the initials “D.G.”, denoting that the owner was of some station in society. The Germanic scroll engraving would seem enough, but there are game scenes throughout, a nod to the purpose of this particular shotgun. The bottom/front of the frame on the right side features a pair of pheasant. Behind that, the lock on the right side shows a dog on point and a small game bird just ahead of it. The opposite lock shows a fox that appears to be caught in the jaws of a trap. The left side of the frame depicts a pair of quail. Finally, in the bottom of the trigger guard is engraved a woodcock. The engraving is extensive and performed to a high level. The copper coloring that fill the design on the top of the breech-end of the barrel is a very nice touch. The overall condition is near fine. Strong actions, however the firing pin assemblies are absent (the sockets are threaded). Bright, smooth bores. Very nice Damascus twist barrels. The stock is solid with nicely checkered wrist and forearm. The forearm has a stable crack and the barrel wedge is a replacement that sticks out more than the original would have but does a workmanlike job. The engravings are deep and finely detailed. The barrel rib is inscribed in gold reading, “G. DITTMAR IN GERA”. This is a beautiful piece of German craftsmanship that would look great on display or even in the field if you can replace the firing pins. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrels are 30 inches. Caliber: 12 Gauge Length of Pull: 13-1/2 inches Chambers: 2-1/2 inch Chokes: Modified/Modified Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1925 #210412 SOLD Antique: Yes |
