JD Dougall Damascus Sidelever Hammer SxS, 12ga/30" - used/verygood

Description:
12 bore JD Dougall sidelever hammer gun in vintage maker’s leather and canvas case with label. Serial number 3158. 30” damascus barrels show a tight pattern with smooth swamped game rib with “J.D. Dougall 59 Gordon St Glasgow” and single front bead. Barrel flats are stamped with Birmingham nitro proof marks, 18.7 bore diameter (corresponds with our .735”/.736” measurements), 850 BAR max pressure, 70mm/2.75” chamber length, and crossed swords with BB over 1 (indicating nitro proof in 1976). Action shows 100% silvering over serpentine border engraving with majority scroll coverage throughout. “J.D. Dougall” engraved in banner on each lock plate. The same serpentine borders and scroll engraving are present on the long tang trigger guard. Stock is of nicely figured European walnut and appears to be done later and is well executed with leather-wrapped pad and blank oval on toe line. Forearm has Anson latch with horn cap at front.

Barrels are on-face and lock up tight. Chambers show signs of old pitting. Standing face shows very light pitting as expected. Ribs are tight. Bores are excellent—shiny and smooth. Hammer springs are strong. No cracks apparent in wood. Stock shows scattered light handling marks consistent with careful use. Leather pad shows moderate wear on edges but is perfectly serviceable. Comes complete in vintage leather and canvas maker’s case with maker’s label.
