Antique Ornate MEDITERRANEAN “DRAGON” Flintlock BLUNDERBUSS Naval Pirate
Used by Navies & Pirates for Boarding and Repelling!
Description: Antique Ornate MEDITERRANEAN “DRAGON” Flintlock BLUNDERBUSS Naval Pirate Used by Navies & Pirates for Boarding and Repelling! Here we present an antique Ornate Ottoman Flintlock Blunderbuss. The blunderbuss is a firearm with a short, large caliber barrel flared at the muzzle and frequently throughout the entire bore and used with shot and other projectiles. The blunderbuss is commonly considered to be an early predecessor of the modern day riot shotgun, with similar military and defensive use. It was effective only at short range, lacking accuracy at long range. A blunderbuss in handgun form was called a Dragon, and it is from this that the term “Dragoon” evolved. In many cases, the face of a dragon was engraved into the barrel near the muzzle. Thus, when fired, it appeared as if a fire-breathing dragon had entered the room! The flintlock blunderbuss was the original coach gun, being a short, handy and devastating weapon at close range. It was used in many capacities, not the least of which were for naval boarding or defending by pirates and navies alike! The overall condition is good. The action is as strong as ever! The bore is dark and a bit rough. The muzzle on this example has been notched on both sides. Wire inlays stretch from the breech to the comb. The stock is ornately carved with floral designs. Engravings can be seen on the lock. To the right of the trigger guard on the bottom of the stock, the number “218” is stamped. Creative designs are atop the barrel. A very eye-catching piece! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 11-1/4 inches. Muzzle Diameter: 1-1/8 inches Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe.
