Francino and Martinoni
Description: Francini and Martinoni, Val Trompia and Brescia. Very fine and rare Child’s flintlock, folding stock, blunderbuss, ca. 1770. Weight 3 ½ Lbs. Overall length: 28”. Superb barrel by Antonio Francino, extensively gold inlaid at the breech, and with an ovoid muzzle. Ramrod with iron worm on hidden end is original to the gun. Fine original flint lock by Pietro Martinoni. Elegant iron mounts. Beautifully figured Walnut stock , extensively relief carved and silver wire inlaid, is hinged (not functional at this time) just behind the trigger guard bow. Some pitting throughout and areas of wire inlay missing. Overall, a beautiful, and quite rare little piece. What would we have given as a child for one of these to use on rats at the dump? Pietro Martinoni was active in Bresci, ca.1770, and he likely was the maker of the lock and the gun with Antonio Francino the barrel-maker. There was an Antonio Francino active in Brescia over a 100 years prior to Martinoni and it could be that Martinoni used a barrel from over a century earlier. There was also another Antionio Francino active in Gardone, Val Trompia, at roughly the same time as Martinoni. ( Information from; “Der Neue Stockel” Vol. 1&2) Price: $8,950.00 Contact Seller |
