The octagon rear portions are engraved and silver inlaid for approx. 4.5"" with one reading JOSEPH BAUER and the other IN CRONACH. Cronach is in upper Franconia with the capital of the district being Kronach. The barrels and action have a smooth brown patina. The brass and German silver trim have an even age patina. The wood is good with a repair on the right at the rear of the action, wear along the sides and bottom, and worn checkering. The butt plate has a break at the top at the tang. The ramrod is present. The action functions correctly. With just a little effort, you could make this interesting German percussion over-under shotgun look much better.
