ENGRAVED Side by Side Double Barrel Fowling Gun

Here we present an antique Engraved and Relief Carved French Double Barrel Percussion Side by Side Shotgun, made by Le Maire sometime in the mid-19th Century in Beauvais, France. It features a half-length stock and dual sidelock hammers. There is a single bead front sight on the concave solid rib of the Damascus twist barrels. The beautifully grained and nicely carved stock has hunting dogs on both sides close to the wrist. The right lock is marked “LEMAIRE”. The left lock is marked “A BEAUVAIS”. The top of the barrels is marked “Lemaire a Beauvais” in silver. The engraving on this piece is especially unique and intricate on the butt plate tang, ramrod tube, and trigger guard.

The overall condition is good+. The actions are both excellent. The bores are smooth and dim. The stock is beautifully grained. There is a repaired crack all the way round the circumference of the stock from the triggers to the tails of the locks and around. This is stable and the previous owner continued to use this piece.
