Circa 1840s Antique KETLAND Percussion Fowler
Description: Circa 1840s Antique KETLAND Percussion Fowler Marked “KETLAND & CO. LONDON” Here we present an antique Ketland Percussion Fowler, made circa the early 19th Century. This would have been a useful hunting implement for fowl or small game. This shotgun features a “LONDON” marked barrel starting octagonal, transitioning to about 18 facets, before going completely round. The barrel has a Damascened pattern. Bottom of the barrel bears “CROWN/CP” and “CROWN/V” proofs. Breech end of the barrel is inlaid with gold and stamped “KETLAND & CO. LONDON”. The engraved lock is marked “KETLAND & ADAMS” and the hammer is engraved like the head of an eagle. Trigger guard and butt plate are also engraved. The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. Pattern is partially visible. The markings are clear and legible. The bore is mostly smooth with light oxidation and scaling that should clean up well. The stock is in great shape. The action on this shotgun is excellent and crisp. Overall a handsome and interesting shotgun from the early-to-mid-19th Century! Own the original!
