Here we present an Antique Franz Xavier Wisthaler Percussion Side by Side Double Barrel Shotgun, made circa 1830 in Munich, Germany. Wisthaler was a gunmaker from Munich from 1800 through 1845 and was known for making high quality flintlock and percussion shotguns. This double barrel hammer gun would have been used for putting game on the table and protecting the homestead.
This is a very Germanic fowling piece that is elegant in its simplicity and practicality. It features a beautifully carved stock with a generous cheek rest with a large flower & vine scroll just behind. The trigger guard is also of carved wood.
The overall condition is good. The action is strong. The bores are smooth and gray. The barrel rib reads “WISTHALER a MUNCHEN”. This is a handsome piece from the Germanic states circa 1830!
