MOORE & GREY SHOULDER FIRED 4 BORE - 40" BARREL WEIGHING 19 LBS - ANTIQUE
Description: Here is a massive Moore & Grey shoulder fired 4 bore percussion shotgun. Barrel is 40" with excellent bore. Weight is 19 LBS. Unrestored condition. Game scene engraving. No cracks to wood. LOP is 13 3/4". Original damascus finish on barrel. Double wedge fastening system. Fully functional with some great lock and stock work. William Moore and William Parker Grey were originally employed by Joesph Manton, the Father of English fine firearms. Moore & Grey also employed some very prominent English gun makers including Frederick Beasley (Inventor of the self opening sidelock that Purdey purchased the rights to manufacture) who was apprenticed to them at age 15 and Henry Atkin, who worked for Moore and Grey for 10 years. Based on the 13 Old Bond Street Address on the barrel, this 4 bore was made sometime from 1853 to 1872. The above information was obtained from British Gun Makers - Volume I - London by Nigel Brown. This is an extraoridnary gun in remarkable condition. Beyond rare. Shipping is $150 and may be shipped in two boxes. As an antique this gun can be shipped directly as local law allows (No NJ or NYC).
