Street Howitzer / Coach Gun / Saw off shot gun 12 Ga.
Description: The Coach Gun was a common sight among the wealthy gentry of Europe in 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. American stagecoach companies saw the need to protect these Europeans and their wealth in order to profit from their travels and valuable shipments the New World. These companies quickly implemented the use of guards to ride along side the driver carrying a weapon that allowed for some leeway in accuracy as they bounced along the bumpy trails. Cut-down versions of these Stagecoach shotguns were also popular with frontier lawmen for their lenient accuracy at close quarters. Thumb the locking lever and you can break open the gun to reveal the lead-spitting barrels of this close-quarters defense weapon. The barrels of this fine shotgun show almost no blackpowder pitting, much less than most of these old coachguns. Close and lock the barrels and cock both hammers. Finger the double triggers one at a time and the hammers will fall. On the plains of the late 19th century there was nothing else like the sound of a shotgun hammer. The feel and action of this legendary Old West tool will transport you back to the dusty streets Deadwood and points west, when your trusty shotgun was your last and best line of defense. Features Overall Length: 37”,with 20 inches barrels. Lock up is very tight and secure. On the top of the rib between the barrels it is marked FINE LAMINATED STEEL. There is a NICE brown patina on the barrels. The hard rubber butt plate shows a brown tone color from age with some fine age checking, but no cracks, chips or breaks. The butt platte shows a wild bore hunt scene from the old country. The stock has no breaks, cracks or chips, and has a very pronounced tiger stripe pattern. Marked on the left lock “J Janssen” on the right lock the same. On both locks is shown a hunting dog and the metal is a silvery grey. The brass inlaid tag in the stock is stamped (W. F. & Co.) “ I swear I did not put it there and do not know who did!” Could it be some wealthy Cattle Baron offered his once fine old shotgun to guard a shipment of his wealth to partners back east?
