Pedro Arrizabalaga - Best Quality - Hand-Detachable, Self-Opening, Sidelock Ejector Two-Barrel Set - 12 Gauge, 2 3/4”
Description: Best Quality - Pedro Arrizabalaga Self-Opening Sidelock Ejector SxS 12 Gauge, in used but excellent condition, with two sets of chopper-lump barrels featuring hand-filed ribs, numbered “3” & 4” in gold. This gun was custom ordered from Pedro Arrizabalaga (then known as the “Purdey of Spain”) by its original owner in 1971 as part of a matched pair (4 barrel set) to replace a pair of pre-WWII Purdeys which he was reluctant to continue using in the field for fear of damaging them. The guns were exactly matched and built to replicate the best grade Holland and Hollands of the time. The new PA guns were used for driven grouse shooting in Scotland and for driven pheasant in Denmark. Gun No. 1 was fitted with barrels numbered “1” & “2”, and this gun, which is No.2 of the original set was fitted with a set of 26” and 28” barrels, numbered “3” & “4”, respectively. Both sets of barrels are made of Nickel Chromium Steel, with 2 ¾ Chambers, and feature a single front bead. Both sets are marked “Pedro Arrizabalaga – Eibar” on one side, “Acero Chromo Niquel” on the opposite side, and “Custom Built F. R. Whitehouse” and the number (“3” or “4”) on the ribs in gold. The gun’s casehardened sidelock action is fully scroll engraved with game bird scenes of grouse and pheasants (as special ordered by the original owner) on the lockplates, underside and trigger guard. The gun has all the features of a "Spanish Best" gun, including a Holland & Holland self-opening system, hand-detachable sidelocks, cocking indicators, jeweled barrel and action flats, double triggers (front articulated), double safety sears, rolled-edge triggerguard, double under bolts, concealed third fastener, selective ejectors, auto top tang safety, bushed firing pins, highly polished inside of side plates and lock parts, gas escape vents, Figured European walnut Straight English stock and Anson release Splinter Forend with classic point-pattern checkering, and teardrops. Pedro Arrizabalaga, Spain’s preeminent gunmaker, joined forces with Arrieta, and their guns are currently available by special order in the USA from William Larkin Moore, a premier European gun seller in the USA. This gun has all the features of an Arrieta Model 872, and the build quality compares favorably in every respect to several Pedro Arrizabalaga guns I own that were made post 1997 when Pedro Arrizabalaga changed its business model to only produce best guns, with resulting production of only about 40 guns per year. Choke Constriction as Measured by Briley Mfg. of Houston, Texas: Barrel Set No. 3 – 26”, RIGHT = (.013) between Improved Cylinder and Light Mod / LEFT = (.009) between Skeet and Improved Cylinder (Note: configured for incoming birds) Barrel Set No. 4 – 28”, RIGHT = (.021) Modified / LEFT = (.037) Full Weight with 26" barrels = 6lbs, 11.0oz. / Weight with 28" barrels = 7lbs, 0.5oz. LOP 14 ½” from front articulated trigger to leather recoil pad, DAC 1 ½”, DAH: 2 ¼”. The original LOP to end of checkered stock was 13 13 ¾” when I purchased the gun. A leather covered pad was expertly added by Dustin Mount, a gunsmith who trained with Purdey, when he serviced the gun. The gun is in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition, tight with the top lever to the right of center and excellent bores. There are some light handling marks on the wood and slight finish wear behind trigger guard. There is a very small, hardly noticeable, indentation in top left side of stock, which could probably be steamed out by a competent gunsmith. A copy of an email from one of the original owner’s sons with history of the gun is included along with a Canvas & Leather Maker's Case, in excellent condition. Please email with any questions or to request a link to a Photobucket album with more pictures of the gun. Payment & Shipping Must ship from my local FFL Dealer to your FFL Dealer.
